For web site hosts the most important thing to know about is bandwidth. The quantity of data which can be sent at one time is called “bandwidth”.

The less bandwidth there is, the slower the pages take to load, regardless of the amount of visitors to the site. With more visitors, each visitor is going to have to wait his or her turn if you don’t have enough bandwidth to accommodate everyone. When selecting a hosting plan, you have to consider the bandwidth you will need.

Be careful when someone claims they provide unlimited bandwidth or monthly transfer. Anyone claiming unlimited bandwidth is simply lying. There’s no such thing as Unlimited Bandwidth.

I have never come across a broadband service provider claiming to offer an Internet connection with unlimited bandwidth. How can a web hosting company provide unlimited bandwidth to customers if it doesn’t own its own access lines?

Usually, high bandwidth sites on such unlimited plans are disconnected and then no refund is granted. In most cases, the web host will claim that a violation of the terms of service or policy of acceptable use has been committed by the website.

When visiting sites that promote unlimited bandwidth as an incentive to create an account, carefully read the Acceptable Use Policy and the Terms of Service. There will be fine text to read about the unlimited disclaimer.

If you look first for web hosting services (those who state clearly bandwidth offered), you must attempt your best estimate and carefully monitor your usage for the first few months. When estimating, remember these factors. How many users will access your web site? How many pages to be access? How big are the graphic and HTML files?

More bandwidth is necessary when viewing multimedia files, running computer programs, and downloading files. There is a lot of bandwith required for flash web sites. THe most bandwidth is used when running virtual reality programs and full-length 3-D presentations.

Even though it isn’t entirely precise it still allows you to work with something until your site has been up for a good amount of time and until actual statistics have been made. Do not fall for an unlimited bandwidth trap which some companies will toss out in order to lure you in.
